5 health checks to put in your diary

It's easy to forget, or put them off, but making time once every year or two for these quick check-ups could save your life:

  • Heart health 'numbers' (blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, body mass index) - Every two years

  • Pap smear (for all women aged 18-70 who have ever been sexually active, including any genital-to-genital contact) - Every two years

  • Mammogram (for women over 40 with a family history of breast cancer, and all women aged 50-70) - Every two years

  • Chlamydia test (if sexually active and aged 15-25, or older if still at risk) - Every year

  • Dental examination and cleaning - Every year

Other check-ups are needed at different stages of life, and for people in certain risk groups.

See Health Checks for more information.
